“Indeed, no stone has a color that is more delightful to the eye…there being no green in existence more intense than this,” Pliny wrote about the emerald.  The first century philosopher was convinced that gazing at emeralds was soothing and restorative.

Cleopatra was also fond of the green stone, and her famous mines in Upper Egypt produced many treasures. Emeralds were historically associated with the goddess Venus and concepts of beauty and fidelity. Today, celebrities like Elizabeth Taylor and Angelina Jolie have kept the vivid green jewel in vogue.

A rich color, emerald is said to elicit a calming yet invigorating effect on the observer. Many people believe the hue encourages harmony and resonance with nature.

There are countless ways to incorporate the deep, fresh color into your home because emerald is as versatile as it is elegant and works well with many styles.

  • Emerald adds energy to a crisp, modern palette of white and black or charcoal.
  • Greens with blue undertones blend with deep teal for updated coastal or global chic looks.
  • Mix with other greens for a lush indoor landscape. Deepen floral and fauna woodland motifs.
  • Elegant emerald is at home in ornate Oriental and baroque settings.
  • Paint a whole wall, or use a pop of color with glassware, or a vase and pillows.
  • Create a rich interior landscape with precious minerals hues like emerald, malachite, and jade.
  • Mix with metals, including gold, silver, and copper patina, or natural materials like granite and marble.

  • Hi guys,

Adoring the Foundary! Great job, and absolutely delighted that Pantone chose emerald as the 2013 hue.

The design nerd in me hates to be picky, but I don’t see a whole lot of emerald in your selection. Plenty of other gorgeous verdant hues, which I love.

From a design perspective (and company image perspective) I care about how the Foundary presents itself. I don’t find this event to be representative of emerald, but more of beautiful verdant greens on the whole. It’s a great reminder that Spring is going to be here soon.

Thanks for the opportunity to give you feedback. I adore the Foundary, and care very much about it’s success.

Keep up the wonderful work, I’m loving it!
    Miss you guys.
    Michaela
